Mark Aarons (artikel bagian ke 2 setelah Robert Manne) membagikan pengalaman ayahnya Laurie Aarons sekretaris The Communist Party of Australia (CPA) ketika menghadiri Konggres PKI ke 5 dan ke 7, kemudian interaksinya yang akrab dengan Aidit dan Lukman, hingga
penilaianya tentang perkembangan PKI hingga dihancurkan pasca G30S.

Mark Aaron menuliskan 

 

Until his death, almost 40 years later, Laurie continuously reflected on the causes of the PKI’s liquidation. His initial reaction was disgust: “The Australian establishment is happy about what it thinks is a great victory won for it by the Indonesian rightist generals. The current anti-communist campaign … has all the trimmings of arson, murder, pillage and repression for which the communists are falsely denounced but which are warmly applauded when practised against communism.” And he mourned his former comrades, especially Aidit and Lukman, as news of their murders emerged.

Published by the Bertrand Russell Peace Foundation in 1975, this book was “written and compiled to remind the world of the tenth anniversary of the coming to power on a sea o f blood of the present Indonesian fascist military regime” . It consists of 14 articles by 13 writers who examine the coup, the Suharto regime and its role in imperialist strategy.
